This Swine Life: Pig Named Six Seven Granted Clemency by Miami-Dade Leader.

Although not quite at the same level as granting clemency to Thanksgiving turkeys, but the county's top official conducted a Donald Trump moment this week by ceremoniously saving the life of a pig named Six Seven.

Daniella Levine Cava carried out the annual tradition at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the core of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.

“This animal is guiltless. Clemency is justified for her. Her criminal record is spotless,” stated the mayor in a speech with clear references to the sheer volume of executive clemencies issued from the start of the beginning of a second term in office.

“Except perhaps for eating 6 or 7 apples per day,” she went on. “Let this swine have a long and happy life free from concern.”

The gathering, simultaneously observing and challenging the region’s Hispanic tradition of feasting on pork during the holidays, was created to mirror the annual turkey pardoning at the White House.

The animal, donated by a local firefighter, was given its name from the modern linguistic fad of young people exclaiming “six seven” – inspired by a musical verse – often for no discernable reason. The phrase became so pervasive that a prominent word reference recently made “six-seven” its top term for the year.

A New Life

Six Seven the pig is now set to enjoy its days at a farm sanctuary “far from charcoal and roasting pans”, according to the ceremony's official statement.

“The pig pardon has become a cherished method to begin the holiday season,” said the cafe owner, in a notably cheerful message.

“It captures the character of Miami: joyful, diverse, and based in heritage that foster togetherness. Every time, we are honored to observe tradition and kindness in a way distinctively Miamian.”

Participants enjoyed a plant-based fare of spinach fritters and cafecito as they toasted Six Seven’s big moment.
