The Game UN:Me: An Psychological Thriller That Blends Silent Hill with Social Deduction Gameplay

The latest Day of the Devs online presentation revealed a number of fascinating upcoming titles, but one in particular has seized attention: UN:Me. Created by Historia and Shueisha Games, this solo adventure appears to fuse together the oppressive atmosphere of a Silent Hill title with the paranoid deduction core of Among Us.

"It's a distinctive game where a young woman harboring multiple personalities within her needs to flee from a labyrinth of the psyche," explains producer Yasukazu Kawai.

Stepping Into a Fractured Mind

In UN:Me, players assume the role of an unnamed heroine seeming to be of high school age. Inside her reside four separate personas, all possessing their own fears and drives. These souls can seize control spontaneously, releasing their innermost phobias upon her suddenly.

Based on revealed gameplay, much of the narrative takes place within a creepy hospital, though other scenes show the protagonist navigating a abandoned chapel.

An Environment of Individual Dread

"What are you afraid of? What causes you uneasy?" poses game director Shun Sasaki. "High places. Small rooms. People in power. Things that seem trivial to other people can activate something primal inside us. This game explores that idea — anxieties that are unique to each person."

The core mechanic revolves around managing the persona that surfaces at a particular time. However, these souls will switch against your will as you play. During exploration, each soul's anxieties become amplified and attack the protagonist in succession. As the persona shifts, so does the particular terror the player experiences.

Unsettling Visuals and a Deadly Choice

At first glance, UN:Me shares striking visual similarities with the Silent Hill franchise. The setting is populated by nurses who all share the identical visage, with unnervingly wide smiles. Patients in the lobby have enormous blooms where their necks should be. Floral motifs are an ever-present theme, contrasting organic elegance with unnatural horror.

Yet, UN:Me introduces a singular mechanic. Players must determine which of the four souls haunting the protagonist is the "true" one. "Each of the personas asserts that the physical form belongs to them," notes a developer. "Throughout the game, you need to figure out who is authentic."

After a player believes a soul is fake, they must eliminate it. However, since every entity can lie or hide the reality, it is incredibly simple to choose incorrectly.

"Perhaps you've already eliminated the real [soul] by your own actions," the narration suggests. "The last one standing might be a fake. In any case, your decisions are final."

UN:Me currently lacks a publicly announced launch window, but it is available to wishlist on platforms.
