Slot Insists He Feels Secure and Has Liverpool's Backing After PSV Defeat
The Liverpool head coach admitted that it was natural for concerns to be asked about his future following a further convincing defeat versus the Dutch champions.
Liverpool endured their ninth loss in twelve matches, representing the team's worst run since being relegated in the 1953-54 season.
They were outplayed by the Eredivisie title holders on a tough evening at Anfield.
“I feel secure, I am OK, I have got plenty of backing from above,” the coach commented.
“It would be great to turn it around and secure a win of course but when you're coaching a team and struggling then it's typical that doubts arise.”
He noted, “I accept my situation. It is not the initial instance I've found myself in a tough spot but it's crucial that we turned it around.”
Discussions with Club Management
When asked to provide details on his conversations with the club's leadership, the head coach said:
“We talk a lot. They assist to the team and to me and those talks happen but they don’t call me constantly each day to say they trust me.”
He mentioned, “During our regular discussions I feel the trust. But I haven’t spoken to them after this match yet so it remains to be seen.”
Persistent Issues and Squad Reaction
Slot highlighted familiar failings from his team in their Champions League defeat, specifically wasted chances and conceding too easily.
Meanwhile, player Curtis Jones was more forthright in his view of the club’s predicament.
“I haven't got the answers. Honestly, I don’t. I’m saying that to everyone,” Jones stated.
“It’s just not good enough. I don't need to wait to think about it. I’m past being angry inside. I’m at the point currently where I just don’t have the words.”
He went on, “It's difficult because I’m playing for the side I follow. I support them, and I've watched this club for years.”
“In recent memory, I haven’t experienced a Liverpool team going through a spell like this with performances so bad.”
Jones concluded, “But we continue to wear that badge on our shirts. And until it is removed, we'll continue to compete.”
“Our aim is to help the side back to its rightful place, demonstrate to all once more what Liverpool stands for and why people call it the best team in the planet.”
“At this moment, we're in trouble and it must improve.”
