Manchester United Poised to Secure Germany Striker Lea Schüller from Bayern Munich
The Women's Super League club are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific Germany forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move away from Bayern Munich.
A Major Signing for United
The forward, with half a year remaining on her contract, is known as a consistent goal-getter for her club and the national team. She has netted over 100 goals for the German giants and found the net 54 times in 82 caps for her country. This signing will be seen as a marquee signing for the WSL side.
Her exit from Munich has been anticipated after she was seen holding back emotions while thanking the German club’s supporters following a win over Bayer Leverkusen this month.
It was reported in December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its top strikers. According to multiple sources, all the paperwork for the move have now been completed.
Reliable Goal Threat to Strengthen the Forward Line
The 28-year-old’s signing is expected to provide a significant uplift to United’s forward line. She has been highly consistent with her finishing in the Bundesliga.
- For seven consecutive seasons, including the most recent campaign, she achieved at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
- She claimed the top scorer award in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.
Gathering Momentum at Carrington
The acquisition of the German international coincides with a period when the club seem to be gathering positive momentum.
Their recent performances include qualifying for the Champions League knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.
Off the pitch, the mid-season window has brought further activity:
- The acquisition of Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
- The contract extension for Japan playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, who has become popular figure since joining in 2023.
Regarding Miyazawa’s new deal, a club official stated: “Miyazawa is now a vital part to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and skill enables her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”
The new defender, having joined from a side from the American league, said: “You can feel how much the club have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and performing in the Champions League.”
