Adult Swim's Leading Fresh Series of 2025 Earns a Significant Renewal for an Additional Two Seasons.

Last October, Adult Swim welcomed back its offbeat hit, Smiling Friends. However, not long after, the channel launched a completely new animated series with a distinctly unique feel. Haha, You Clowns proved to be gentle and comforting, evoking a cartoon version of a serene talk show. At a time often characterized by cynicism, this show's sincerity resonated deeply and helped it become a breakout hit.

A Significant Investment

In mid-December, Adult Swim confirmed a big renewal: Haha, You Clowns has been greenlit for two more seasons. This provides creator Joe Cappa ample opportunity to further explore the world of the Campbell family. The show focuses on three polite teenage brothers whose central trait is their profound affection for their single father, with Cappa voicing for all four central characters.

"My deepest thanks go to the audience of the show who welcomed the series and helped it grow," stated Cappa. "I am overjoyed that I get to spend more time in the Campbell household for seasons to come."

A President's Endorsement

Accompanying the news laudits from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who called the series as "profoundly sincere and oddly captivating." He shouted out the fans who found the show and advocated for its distinctly quirky style.

"All of you showed up for this new show, praised it on social media, and grew it week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," noted Ouweleen. "As the show says: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Comforting Counterpoint

Upon its debut, Haha, You Clowns was praised as "a comforting antidote" to more cynical adult animated fare. Viewers found something surprisingly comfy about watching this endearing family navigate their simple existence.

In earlier interviews, creator Joe Cappa stated his desire to move the comedy genre beyond its prevailing cynical streak. He attributed this trend to a broader media landscape.

“There's this level of irony that we can't get ourselves out of,” noted Cappa. “The attitude is that we have to know we’re the cleverest viewer in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for too long, and we must laugh at something different now. The genre needs to change.”

What Comes Next

With this renewal, with Haha, You Clowns locked in for the future, Cappa has the opportunity to be part of that very evolution. At a minimum, the renewal promises audiences more opportunities to experience the warm glow of the endearing Campbell clan.

The season 1 finale of Haha, You Clowns will premiere on December 21st. The entire series is ready to watch on HBO Max.
